This award was presented to Ella Fitzgerald by the Tau Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. It is a silver picnic basket on a marble base with gold-tone musical notes and a hinged painted green lid. There is an engraved metal plate on the base:

DECEMBER 1, 1968The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D. C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek – letter organization established by African American college-educated women.
The Tau Omega Chapter was chartered in 1925. Since its chartering, Tau Omega has focused on service programs in the Harlem Community.
