Scope and Contents
Consist of paper dolls that were created for magazines and periodicals. Generally, the materials were characters created by female artists who were known for their illustrations in children's publications. These artists created materials based on vintage paper dolls or new characters and submitted their work to publications such as Ladies Home Journal, Woman's Home Companion, McCall's Magazine, and the Pictorial Review. The periodicals and magazines depended on the popularity of the characters to help sell their publications. To that end each issue included Betty Bonnet (1915), Dolly Dingle (1913), Lettie Lane (1908), Polly Pratt (1919), Polly Perkins (1934), Peggy Pryde (1926), or Betsy McCall (1951). Reproductions of the paper dolls were later printed as a collection of the dolls. Materials are arranged alphabetical order.
