Lois Mailou Jones: painter and teacher; b. in Boston, 1905; taught at Howard Univ. in Washington, 1930-77; d. June 9, 1998 in Washington at age 92 (N.Y. Times, June 13, 1998).

When the Museum purchased the collection from the Estate of Robert S. Scurlock, it obtained all rights, including copyright. The earliest photographs in the collection are in the public domain because their term of copyright has expired.
