When the Museum purchased the collection from the Estate of Robert S. Scurlock, it obtained all rights, including copyright. The earliest photographs in the collection are in the public domain because their term of copyright has expired. Building exterior at street corner with a tree in front of it. Sign above the building's canopied door reads, "Morning Star Lodge No. 40 I.B.P.O ELK of W." Plaque carved into the side of the building reads, "Morning Star Lodge No. 40 I.B.P.O.E. of W. Organised May 26, 1904". Signpost at corner reads, "N.W. Q St." Sign on sidewalk in front of building reads, "No Parking Entrance..." Ink on negative: caption. "DEFENDER SAFETY BASE" edge imprint.
Subseries Restrictions
Collection is open for research. Gloves must be worn when handling unprotected photographs and negatives. Special arrangements required to view negatives due to cold storage. Using negatives requires a three hour waiting period. Contact the Archives Center at 202-633-3270.
