- Collection is open for research. Gloves must be worn when handling unprotected photographs and negatives. Special arrangements required to view negatives due to cold storage. Using negatives requires a three hour waiting period. Contact the Archives Center at 202-633-3270.

- Posed group of men and women on the exterior steps of the 12th Y.M.C.A. Banner strung above the door reads, "12th ST. Y.M.C.A. Membership Campaign. A call to service. Apr. 12th Apr. 22nd. Rev. E. C. Smith. General Chairman. Join the Y.M.C.A. Goal 900 Members. Goal {dollar}4,000. Cash". The front row is seated and all but three are holding a sign with a team number and captain's name. There are also two signs reading, "Division 'A' Dr. Victor J. Tulane Manager Joseph L. Bryant Asso. Manager" and "Division 'B' Atty. B. V. Lawson Manager Rev. J. L. Henry Asso. Manager". There are two trophies on the ground in the middle of the front row. Ink on negative: caption. "DEFENDER SAFETY" edge imprint.

- When the Museum purchased the collection from the Estate of Robert S. Scurlock, it obtained all rights, including copyright. The earliest photographs in the collection are in the public domain because their term of copyright has expired. The Archives Center will control copyright and the use of the collection for reproduction purposes, which will be handled in accordance with its standard reproduction policy guidelines. Archives Center cost-recovery and use fees may apply when requesting reproductions.
