VOTES FOR WOMEN: The Massachusetts Woman Suffrage Association issued this tin bluebird sign in support of a 1915 state referendum to give Massachusetts women the vote. On July 19, 1915, “Suffrage Blue Bird Day,” approximately 100,000 bluebirds were pinned up around the state. The Massachusetts referendum failed; women in the state did not gain the vote until the 19th amendment was ratified in 1920.
