When the Museum purchased the collection from the Estate of Robert S. Scurlock, it obtained all rights, including copyright. The earliest photographs in the collection are in the public domain because their term of copyright has expired. Scope and Contents
Group of women in long dresses dancing on the lawn in front of a building at Howard University. Each dancer trails a length of fabric on the ground behind her. A group of women in long white dresses sit on the buildings exterior steps with the skirts of their dresses covering the steps. A group of four men, dressed in military uniform, stand at the top of the stairs holding two flags. Spectators are seated around the roped off 'stage' area. No ink on negative. Ink on envelope: caption. "KODAK - SAFETY -- FILM" edge imprint.

Collection is open for research. Gloves must be worn when handling unprotected photographs and negatives. Special arrangements required to view negatives due to cold storage. Using negatives requires a three hour waiting period. Contact the Archives Center at 202-633-3270.
